Congratulations! Team India

Whose Victory Is This

Congratulations to Team India for such a fabulous victory.

The Indian deserve all the applause for the deed they have done. This victory has a lot more into it than a normal victory:

it is over undoubtedly one of the best sides in the world

it is over one of the most professional and most shrewd sides in the world

it has been achieved in one of the most trying circumstances wherein sledging achieved most of its height (or depth), standards fell down to the level they could fell to, in short, the hosts were totally behaving like ghosts

I could see a lot of TV channels yesterday (i.e. March 04, 2008) coming out with display of lots of celebrations, lots of comments, pictures, discussions etc. and it is nice to see the heroes being celebrated like that. I have a lot of respect for some of TV journalists, Rajdesai, Barkha Dutt, Deepak Chowrasia, Pranav Roy, Vinod Dubey etc. to name a few. But I could see something disturbing on these TV channels. The TV channels have every right to increase their TRPs, to bring to front the views they have. But are the comparisons like Juniors v/s Seniors, Small Town v/s Big Town really worth it. Do they have any meaning or should they be having any place in our minds. Why are we always looking at divisions at all the time, are not the events of these kinds right opportunity to celebrate the spirit of Unity in Diversity. Is it appropriate the team members to divide into Juniors and Seniors, those hailing from small towns and big towns. Were the seniors not juniors before they became seniors or will not the juniors become seniors after being junior. When we say that juniors are having lots of spirit in them, are we not disgracing the seniors who are big motivators, who should be held responsible for holding this bunch of enthusiasts together.

Friends, is it not a treat for eyes watching a Shreesanth from south celebrating with Yuvraj from north, players from east embracing players from west, the seniors supporting juniors and the juniors taking clues from seniors.

Let the game be alive, let the spirit of game be alive, let INDIA live long.
